Warnings

3:50 PM AST Tuesday 23 January 2018
Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Beginning tonight and continuing into Wednesday, 20 to 35 cm of snow can be expected as a low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes tracks over southeastern Labrador on Wednesday evening. As the low approaches winds will increase to strong easterly with gusts between 60 and 80 km/h on Wednesday, giving widespread areas of reduced visibility in blowing snow.

Over southeastern Labrador, the snow will change over to rain Wednesday afternoon. Conditions will improve Wednesday evening as the precipitation and winds begin to ease.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weathernlwo.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx.
